What is an eSIM, and why use one for travel?

An eSIM stores a digital SIM profile on a compatible device. It lets you add a mobile plan without inserting another physical card. For travel, first check the destination coverage, your device and the plan conditions.

Does my phone, tablet or laptop support eSIM?

Check the exact model, sales region and manufacturer specifications—not just the product name. eSIM availability differs between versions. For a Windows laptop, check Settings → Network & internet → Cellular and eSIM profiles; cellular-capable hardware is required. A missing option needs confirmation with the manufacturer.

How can I check whether my phone is unlocked?

On iPhone, open Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. “No SIM restrictions” means it is unlocked. For Android, ask the original carrier about that specific device. Having eSIM support does not by itself mean another provider’s plan can be used.

How do I choose a plan for my trip?

Match every stop on your itinerary to the actual coverage list. Then compare data allowance, duration, activation rules, supported networks and hotspot restrictions. Regional coverage is not implied by a country label. Our current catalog contains illustrative plans and prices.

When should I install it, and when does validity start?

Installing an eSIM and starting the plan’s validity period are separate steps. Some plans start at installation; others start on their first connection to a supported network. Check the actual plan’s rule before installing and use a stable internet connection. We have not yet confirmed activation rules for live plans.

An installed profile does not by itself prove that mobile data is connected. Outside the covered destination, it may not connect yet; do not reinstall or delete it for that reason.

Can I make calls, receive SMS or verification codes?

Do not assume a data plan includes a phone number, voice calls or SMS. Internet messaging works through data, while a text verification code requires an SMS-capable line and service support. Check the actual plan; our sample plans are labelled data only.

How do I install an eSIM on iPhone using a QR code?

After receiving a valid QR code from your provider, connect to the internet. Open Settings → Cellular / Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code, then follow the prompts. Alternatively, scan with Camera. Name the line clearly and choose your data line. WESENZA does not currently issue installation codes.

How do I enter eSIM details manually on iPhone?

If your provider supplies manual installation details, open Settings → Cellular / Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Enter Details Manually. Copy the SM-DP+ address, activation code and any required confirmation code exactly. Menu labels can vary by iOS version; do not invent or reuse someone else’s code.

How do I install an eSIM on Android?

On supported Galaxy phones: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM, then scan the provider’s QR code or enter its activation details if offered. On Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM → Set up an eSIM. Follow the device prompts; names and methods vary by model and version.

Can I keep my usual SIM while using a travel eSIM?

On a compatible dual-SIM device, select the travel line for mobile data and set your call and message preferences separately. Check automatic data switching and your home carrier’s roaming charges. When you return, choose the home line for data and turn off any travel line you no longer need.

Should I enable data roaming?

Follow the actual travel plan’s instructions; some need roaming enabled on the travel eSIM. Enable it only on the intended line and check the home line separately. Roaming settings do not guarantee coverage or remove charges from your existing carrier.

Can I share the connection with a personal hotspot?

Both the device and the actual plan must allow tethering. Check hotspot availability, allowance and speed restrictions before relying on it. We have not confirmed hotspot support for live WESENZA plans, so the sample catalog should not be taken as a sharing guarantee.

How can I check or reduce my data use?

Use your phone’s mobile-data statistics to see which apps consume data. Download maps over Wi-Fi and limit cloud backups or large updates on cellular. Device counters and provider usage records can differ; use the provider’s current allowance and validity information for the actual plan.

Can I add more data or keep the same number?

Top-ups, renewals and keeping a number depend on the provider and plan. Check whether extra data extends validity or starts a separate period, and whether any number remains active. WESENZA currently has no top-up or renewal service; do not assume these options are available.

Can I move an eSIM to another device?

Transfer depends on the provider, profile and both devices; support for system transfer is not universal. Before changing phones, confirm the permitted method and whether a replacement profile is needed. Do not delete the existing eSIM or scan its code on another phone without confirmation.

I arrived, but there is no mobile data. What should I check?

1. Check your device’s SIM settings to confirm that the travel eSIM is installed. Turn the line on and select it for mobile data.

2. Check that you have arrived in a covered destination and that the actual plan is active, unexpired and has data remaining. Installation alone does not guarantee a connection.

3. Follow that plan’s roaming, APN and supported-network instructions. Do not guess APN values or copy another provider’s settings.

4. Make sure flight mode is off. Try switching it on and off, then restart if needed. If the problem continues, record the error for the issuing provider; do not delete the eSIM to troubleshoot.

My QR code will not scan, or says it has already been used.

Keep the code clear and fully visible, connect to stable internet and check whether the profile is already installed. Use manual entry only if your provider offers it. A code may be restricted to one installation or device; ask the issuing provider to check its status rather than repeatedly installing or deleting profiles.

Why can I not connect even though data remains?

Check the expiry time and the remaining allowance separately: data left over does not prove that the plan is still valid or that your location is covered. Then check the selected data line, roaming and supported networks.

Your phone’s accumulated data use is not the provider’s remaining balance, and their records may update at different times. Record the error and ask the issuing provider to verify the plan and connection.

What should I do about an APN or PDP authentication error?

Check the exact APN and any credentials supplied by the provider, as well as plan validity and supported networks. Do not guess APN values or change working settings without instructions. Before a network reset, read the device warning: saved Wi-Fi and other network settings may be removed. Ask the provider for help first.

The signal drops when I change location. What can I do?

Coverage and network availability vary along a route. Check the plan’s supported networks and use automatic network selection unless the provider directs otherwise. Move to an area with reception, toggle flight mode or restart. Manual selection should be limited to an allowed network; a signal icon does not guarantee working data.

I accidentally deleted my eSIM. Can I restore it?

Contact the issuing provider before trying to reinstall. Whether the old code can be reused or a replacement is required depends on the profile and provider. Deleting a profile does not itself cancel a plan. WESENZA has not yet connected eSIM issuance or recovery, so we cannot restore an active profile here.
